That was a very depressing home game. Unfortunately, that Bama game and last years UGA game will always be remembered in my mind.
The Ole Miss game was the beginning of the end for Dinnardo. I believe that game was the reason Reese left and thus the infamous Tepper hire. That Ole Miss game was a big, bring you down game, especially after such a high the week before.
Good- skyler green TD reception vs georgia, herb tyler TD run vs florida in 97 (will anyone forget him jumping and pumping his fist in the air?) blue grass miracle bad- the bama shut out game. gameday was here and we were talking upset. it was close before the half, and alabama ran like 5 straight draw plays to go right up the field and score. also, when kentucky took the lead vs lsu before the blue grass miracle. and one more time... the screen pass georgia took to the house after a VERY TIGHT game.
The Jamie Howard interception game against Auburn in '94 made me physically sick for a week. Then, Curley ticked me off even worse by blaming everything on Howard when he was the idiot calling the plays--after our defense had played lights out all game. I lost it in a good way, though my husband suggested I be committed, when Lavalais caused Manning to fall backwards on Ole Miss' last offensive play in '03. That was such an emotional game--with, literally, our national championship shot on the line. We'd either win the game, and win the West (by beating Arkansas of course), or we'd be in the Cotton Bowl again. I fell to my knees in the middle of my living room floor.
Twice: 4th and 12 conversion vs Auburn '04 ....AND.... penalty giving Auburn ANOTHER chance to make the PAT to beat us....again in '04. I didn't speak to any of the half-dozen people I had over that day after it happened. I was a REAL sore sport that day--throwing stuff, cursing, etc. My fiance' (who's from the northeast and knows very little of the pagentry of college sports in the south) even phoned my mom back home in Louisiana to ask her if my "reaction to the game was normal? And if so, how long will it take for him to be normal again?" ...To which my mom replied, "It's normal, hun. His dad is in the other room doing the same things. Give 'em about an hour after the game--after they've called one aother and vented." :hihi: Momma knows us best! :thumb:
I agree, we had to fight our way out of AU that day. You would have thought the piece of ****'s had just won the NC. Which makes me glad, in a way, that they didn't. The bull**** call that gave them the second try at the PAT is the moment I lost it. I hope I never see something like that again. Does anyone know the official's name that made that call? Just curious. I am really looking forward to the trip next year back to the trailer park. Because of that game, to this day, I want to dismember everyone I see wearing AU gear.
I used to be a thrower myself. I guess it came from my grandpa who used to get lit up for cardinals games. Lets think about it for a second, thats 162 games of being lit up. He was like Elivis when he would get pissed. He used to throw bottles at the tube and stuff. I was waiting for him to pull out the gun shoot the screen. Anyway, I used to be a big time thrower. I threw the remote and put a hole in the wall. I used four letter words and all that. But, then I realized how bad that looked. So, I still take the cardinals or the chiefs seriously, but I refrain from throwing stuff. I do still curse. Plus, being the geek I am, I'll on occation wave a towel when im at a sports bar or something.
Well, since then, when I get the urge to "blow up" and throw stuff, I do my best to control myself until I can get out of the house, and then "go to town" on the punching bag that I have hanging outside.... It tires me out no doubt, but I doesn't give the morbid satisfaction of something breaking. but it's working good enough....
When the 04 Aurburn games was over...I hopped into the Mustang and drove away. I drove fast, blaired my music and came back when I got low on gas. Then I went outside and just sat on the porch. It was a nice night weather wise. That's how I dealt with it.
When JV busted the first play against OU in the Sugar Bowl the goosebumps were actually painful. But when Skylar scored I started hyperventilating and knew I had to get as drunk as humanly possible in order to cope with the entire event. I drank damn near an entire fifth of vodka with orange juice just during the game!!!! I know, I know, my liver is probably operating to this day at 10% capacity. I could not face that game sober and not have a heart attack. Believe it or not, as drunk as I got I saw the whole game and remember the finish with the punt and the time running out. Cried like a little baby. My wife of over 20 years said she had NEVER seen me so emotional. The next day, needless to say, I was damn near bedridden. But it was the happiest hangover I've ever had in my life!!!
