LSUSupaFan and LSUBud are suprisingly the only people who mentioned Tulane as a truly hated opponent...
Teams that you have don't have to be threats to us athletically, intellectually, physically, mentally, emotionally, or in any other means to be a hated rival...
Tulane is-historically-with good reason a truly hated rival in my mind. I put up with too many of their ilk and their delusions of grandeur to sit idly by while they crow on and on about their imagined athletic successes.
They could be 0-10, and have one game to play, and I would not root for them.
My worst day was when they were threatening to end their athletics program, in a thinly veiled disguise attempt to extort more money out of an already seemingly non existent and nonsupportive fanbase.
To not have Tulane's Athletic teams around to demean, belittle, and absolutely hate would have made our tradition less. It's sad that those traditional, historical rivalries, are going by the wayside because of the competition and talent divide...
I mean, think about it people...Some things we don't even realize...
Alabama's alma-mater actually mentions Georgia Tech by name, and mentions something about, "sending them to a watery grave." No one remembers that Georgia Tech and Alabama used to have the single, most hated rivalry in the entire SEC. GT dropped out, put an emphasis on education, and then made an athletic renaissance in the ACC. The Alabama connection is all but forgotten amongst their rank and file fans, and precious few others around the nation.
That's what's happening to our traditional hated rivals in Tulane University.
Does anyone remember that they actually stole Mike The Tiger once?
Does anyone remember that it got SO bad between the two schools that a emblamatic quilted embroidered tapestry had to be made at the suggestion of the two school's student bodies to help quell the amount of tomfoolery betwixt the two schools come football season?
I would say my top rivalries...
1.) Ole Miss
2.) Tulane
3.) Auburn (Only because of the recent success; otherwise, I'd flip-flop them with # 4...
4.) Alabama (Traditionally more hated than Auburn, but Alabama hasn't been as competitive as they should have been on the whole in the past 6-7 years, and not again for the forseeable future).
5.) UL-L
I would say Florida or another conference team because of the fact that they are more competitive than UL-L, but, mark my words, UL-L is about to start feeling its oats with the election of the President of the University's wife to the Governor's Mansion in this state.
You're going to see them make a play in the Legislature for more funding, and get to that increase in funding, and you're going to see them put on more and more airs when it comes to their status in the state.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear a groundswell from UL-L supporters to achieve dual-flagship status along with LSU...
For this oncoming onslaught of absolute asinine thinking amongst their fanbase, as well as their annoying behavior leading up to the Sub-Regional in Smoke's first year, as well as their pompous attitudes going into our mid-April showdown with them in 2000 in baseball (They were #6, we were #4; we both made it to Omaha, and the LSU fans cheered like crazy and took them under their wing as they stayed at the LSU Baseball Official Hotel)....
I just dislike them....I don't know about hate just yet...I'll wait to see what their supporters do in the way of detrimental behavior towards the Ole War Skule first...
