The last time I looked at a map I'm pretty sure Missouri isn't in the southeast, more like midwest. This is stupid. The media and hog fans would try to make the Missouri/Ar-kansas game some big time rivalry game with some ridiculous traveling trophy. Not to mention the fact that the only two teams that would be trying to recruit that state would be Missouri and arky. Damn, why don't we raid the Sun Belt Conference while we're at it? Arkansas State perhaps? Hell, let's go for North Alabama, they have a rich winning tradition.
Here is my prediction: mo does join the secw au moves to sece bama new east permanent is au tn new west permanent is tam ga new west permanent is mo we all play one more sec game yearly we keep one perm and two rotating east sec stays at fourteen
They are neither southern nor east so this sucks. Fan travel is what makes the SEC great, and this spreads us too thin I fear.
From a 'traveling' standpoint.... LSU -> MsSt = 304 miles LSU -> UMs = 345 miles LSU -> UAl = 350 miles LSU -> Tamu = 364 miles LSU -> Aub = 420 miles LSU -> UArk = 540 miles LSU -> Vandy = 589 miles LSU -> UF = 590 miles LSU -> UGA = 597 miles LSU -> USCe = 642 miles LSU -> UTn = 656 miles LSU -> UMo = 776 miles LSU -> UKy = 802 miles
I agree that we may not be each others first choice, but we are the best choice available on both sides. This is a marriage of necessity. Sure, we'd probably rather stay put, but our current conference is evaporating due to the Bevo menace and no one is interested in doing the B1G any favors after the stunt they pulled last year. That conference undeniably damaged their brand academically by adding UNL and quite frankly that's all they had going for them. WVU is a nice little school, but they have too many warts to really make sense. VaTech is not a flagship university, so they'll always be second fiddle. FSU just dilutes your existing footprint and they aren't as good as they used to be. We are fine being used by the SEC for our media markets and academics in turn for a chance to maintain a high end football brand. I think we have a chance to grow into this together because we're all being honest about why we are together.
I think that people are making too much of what Mizzou is now rather than what they could be once they've become established in the conference. Just being a part of it makes them better because the level of competition increases. Of course, this adjustment will take time on their end, but they seem to be willing to invest the resources into it.
If the SEC adds Mizzou, then they'll need to change the name to avoid becoming one of those retarded groups of people with incorrectly descrptive names. Perhaps something more accurate like Bowl Championship Series Conference or Mythical National Champion Conference? Maybe "Overlords of College Football"?
