    You're right, hardship.

I've heard of players being denied but I can't recall the player or team exactly. Maybe I could look that up.

C'mon dude. You know that was a wise crack question. If not, then for you only, yes, players can only get a redshirt if they are hurt in practice. Yes.

I don't know squat about redshirts. Some people come to forums to learn things. Take some midol.

P.S. That last part was a wise crack.

    Maybe there's more:

    Published: November 23, 1994
Nebraska learned yesterday that quarterback TOMMIE FRAZIER won't receive an extra year of eligibility to make up for this season, most of which he missed because of recurring blood clots. The N.C.A.A. administrative review panel denied Frazier's appeal for medical hardship.
"I feel terrible about him losing a year of eligibility," Coach TOM OSBORNE said. "This is supposed to be the year of the athlete in the N.C.A.A."

I guess it begs the questin to ask how is Early's groin going ? Unfortunately, you can't tape a groin. Time will tell when he returns and how effective he is when he does. Hope they don't rush it and then end his season. His absence is beyond simply being obvious.

Midol, makes your posts seem smart, and more intuitive than they actually are.

Redshirting: There are two ways to "redshirt" the way the term is commonly used.

    1) Play not one play or one down for an entire season. You may do this once during your college career.

    2) If you have played during the season, or if you have used up your regular redshirt year, and you get hurt, you may qualify for the medical hardship waiver, which would grant you an additional year of eligibility. There are certain rules about how much you can play and still qualify for it. I think you can play in only 20% of the games and only a certain % of the snaps. I also think there are some academic requirements as well. You have to apply to the NCAA for it.

Early, because he has played this season, would need to qualify for a redshirt under #2 if he was to be out for the season. He's already disqualified from #1 because he's played. He could conceivably qualify for #2, but I understand they want to bring him back as soon as the Florida game.
