Something's got to give. You think that we are going to find the best coach for the job before the bowl games and before the end of the NFL regular season? No way. Are you suggesting that we hurry up and hire a new coach ASAP so that we can have a better chance of not losing recruits? That's unwise. We can do without the best recruiting class for one year only. However, if we hurry up and hire the wrong coach, then we will have to live with this decision for years. We've got to take our time. We can't act in haste just because we think it's what the recruits want. Don't forget, most of the recruits were coming to LSU because Saban wanted them and they wanted Saban. The prime reason why they were coming to LSU is soon to be the Miami Dolphins HC. My point is, no matter who we hire, we are going to lose some recruits, because they anticipated playing for Saban, not for some unknown coordinator from the pro or college ranks (which I think is all we'll get unless we take our time with the hiriing process). Forget about promoting Jimbo to HC . . . we need to hire a big name proven coach, and that will take time.
I gaurentee dollars to donuts Skip has a short list already...and he probably has been contacted by interested parties already. Don't expect this to be drawn out. Once we need a coach in 3-4 years it will be a quick process.
Hey Jean, isn't Urban Meyer one of these "Bowl Coaches" you speak of? He didn't wait until after his Bowl Game to sign with Florida did he? Apparently you do not follow recruiting closely. Recruits come to LSU for many reasons, not just Saban. Defensive Tackle - Lyle Hitt a current committment, has said he is coming to LSU even if a coaching change occurs. You want to blow off recruiting to find the "Perfect Coach"? Last few times we did the "Nation Wide Search" routine..we got Hallman & DiNardo. There is no reason to drag this out, Skip already has a list of Great coaches. Most LSU football fans do not want to sit back and watch our #7 Ranked recruiting class fall to #42, when it can be prevented.
