i thought that was a rather crazy claim since its not relevant yet after some thought its still true. there is no 3 on 3 who could beat shaq and pistol. I could play the wing.

Pistol was doing stuff back in his heyday that people still look at as unbelievable and well Shaq is a physical specimen which nobody has any answer to...Bob Pettit would make one hell of a role player.

his career average of 44 will never ever be broken. too bad he didnt have a 3pt shot. he may have averaged 60.

Career averages for these 3 players in the NBA are as follows:
    Bob Pettit - 26.4 PPG, 16.2 RPG, 3 APG
    Pete Maravich - 24.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 5.4 APG
    Shaquille O'Neal - 27.1 PPG, 12.1 RPG, 2.9 APG

That's not too bad. Remember "Pistol" didn't even have the 3 point line until his final NBA season when his minutes were very limited due to knee problems. He shot 10-15 for a career .667 3 pt. average.

I gave that some thought one day and figured even if he had averaged four 3 pointers per game (which is a really high average), he would have had an average of 48. So it would be nowhere near 60.

If the three point line was there on the court he may have had a tendancy to step behind it before shooting. So how would you know he could not have averaged near 60? :)

actually they had a certain group who reviewed all games he played and concluded he would have averaged 50+ so who knows. Knowing Pistol he woulda shot most every shot from behind there if he wanted to awe the crowd even more. 4 a game for pete? surely you jest.

Pete had a 64 point game against Kentucky. Several years later when the 3 pointer had been in the rule book somebody reviewed the shot chart for that game and figured out that 12 of Pete's baskets came from behind the present day 3 point line. That would have given him 76 points for that game.

actually I was going to ask you in this thread about your opinion anyhow. Maybe some of you who saw him in person or at least have a better understanding of how great he was could tell us how many 3 pters he coulda averaged if he wanted? I know its conjecture but the fact he still holds the top 3 scoring averages is beyond amazing given the fact there was no line then. I mean, maybe one of the top 3 maybe but all 3. baffles me.
