I didn't see this posted yet, but it looks like Olvey is done until perhaps the 2008 season... :bncry: http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/2742416.html
Wow, Olvey out, possibly until 2008, and Bonura out possibly for the rest of the season. Things are just going from bad to worse with the Baseball team.
surely this is a common problem on all levels of baseball and I hate when people unfairly blame the coaches for such a thing. I also hate babying pitchers due to stringent pitch counts. But if I recall, brady wiederhead and smoke threw olvey 140 pitches the game prior to his 150 pitch game which did him in. thats entirely too much for a curveball pitcher.
i remember it was over the redline which is 100 for most while 120 is often considered extreme. thats fine and dandy once in a blue moon but you dont do it on consecutive appearances. much less 150. that's insane. we owe this kid an apology and a check for ruining his career.
im sure he's not second guessing transferring now on top of the fact Notre Dame is now in the top 10. that's gotta make him wonder just a little.
Yep. It's not his fault that we have no bullpen. They threw the guy until his arm fell apart. That's like the Braves pitching Smoltz 150 pitches a start cause they have no bullpen. Cox has more sense than tear his pitcher's arm up because he has no pen. If I was the kid's dad I'd whip Smoke's a$$.
Wow I can’t believe how big of a problem smoke has become. What’s next from Smoke making these guys play a triple-header in the rain? Fat tub of $h!t.
Is this going to have an impact on recruiting pitchers or getting transfers? If it is widely believed that over-pitching Olvey blew out his arm, what kid in his right mind is going to want to go someplace where the coaches risk your career? Or, is this going to have other kid's parents questioning whether or not their sons should stay at LSU? It seems to me that the repercussions from Olvey's injury could go further than his individual career.
