hence my reference. well was my guess. :hihi: :hihi: he was a good kid. (not a kid anymore) he reminds me of lance berkman, from rice, who doesnt even cuss. you know, morals and all that stuff unlike me.
You're like me, Tirk. The rough language doesn't bother us, because we've had that kind of abuse heaped upon us by true professionals (US Army DS) in the medium, who actually enjoy their work. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
gzilla, well again the personal attack. And you keep stating that I am missing the point and I am not. Your point is that Clay is not the prototypical second baseman, I agree. And you say it proves Smoke has made a mistake in putting him there even though he has produced very well and has played good defense. His range may be a somewhat smaller than other second basemen in the SEC but than again his totals seem to indicate otherwise. If Gill was healthy and Harris was still at second base, than maybe I would agree withg you, but the fact is we havce no one else that would be a suitable rep[lacement for him at second. You can try and teach me all the baseball you want, but I've followed the game for many years and know it pretty well. The problem isn't Harris, it's the lack of a suitable replacement. If you are going to balk at Harris playing second than blame Turtle for not recruiting enough good middle infielders who can hit.
So again, does Smoke deserve any criticism for this year? I still don't think you get the point. This team is built for offense. Smoke is even hedging his bets on defense by putting more power in the lineup. Yet the team is not scoring any runs. The makeup of this team is a result of a major miscalculation by Smoke. There was a time when Gorilla ball was ahead of the curve and gave LSU an advantage. Skip saw the opportunity and took advantage of it. Those times are over. Smoke hasn't seen it and has a lineup full of big guys who hit into double plays.
gzilla, who would you have playing second base? I have already posted that I don't agree with Smoke on every choice he makes. I have never agreed with every choice any manager of one of my favorite teams has made, ever. I don't like him using Hebert for the lefty/righty matchups. There's one. I think sometimes he leaves pitchers in too long. There's another. I think he has maybe entrusted too much of the recruiting decisions to Turtle, although I have know real knowledge of that, since we do have holes in our infield. So there's another.
Batting avg ----------- Tennessee........... .337 Ole Miss............ .322 Arkansas............ .319 Kentucky............ .311 Florida............. .309 South Carolina...... .304 Auburn.............. .299 Vanderbilt.......... .294 Mississippi State... .294 LSU................. .291 Alabama............. .287 Georgia............. .269 To me, this is the second biggest reason LSU has not been winning. The biggest IMO is that we have not gotten the key hits but I can't really prove it because the SEC doesn't give averages with runners in scoring position, which surprises the hell out of me.
We can get all warm and fuzzy about reversing the slump and making it to Omaha, but, it is possible that we continue the slumpt and lose the next three out of four SEC series. If that happens, let's not all jump off of a bridge.
