It's not an all or nothing deal. Smoke deserves criticism for this team. He put the team together. He decided that this team would be best by loading up on power hitters in the lineup. The fact is, we are getting shut down frequently at the plate. Clay Harris is playing 2nd base and we are scoring 1 run. That's a problem. We're not going to win too many games like that.
LSU certainly isn't playing up to par, but I feel for Mestepey. This guy has pitched well enough to be undefeated. LSU needs to learn how to hit good pitching--period. Like many others, I'm sitting around waiting for this team to come together. I guess the SEC really is THAT good. Oh well. No biggie. We'll take the next two! God I hate South Carolina baseball...
I think the scary part is after this year, we lose Gill, Patty, Lane, Faircloth, Stav, C Harris and some other people (including Hebert). It's tough to think of next year without most of those people. I would like to see either JP Padron(prefer) or Bryan Harris at third so at least we can get a little experience for next year and have at least a better bat in the lineup. Gotta learn sooner or later.
Yeah, I think next year will be scary. If you guys are bothered by people bitching now, wait till next year.
it never ceases to amaze me how frequently ppl shun the concerns of others by telling them to 'quit bitching'. first of all, this is a GD forum. forums are basically places to go to bitch about things with others. condeming someone b/c they're not constantly thinking 'it could be worse' goes against the very nature of competition. second, we are dealing with an underachieving baseball team that is pretty much in a tailspin ATM. they are consistently getting beaten up by far inferior teams. i'd say LSU baseball fans have a lot to bitch about right now. yes, we are spoiled and have come to expect far better from our baseball team. that precedent was set long ago. smoke has proven again and again that he is just an average coach. never has that been more obvious than the present. sure, he got us to the cws...where we proceeded to get 'smoked'. with the talent he's had on the field, it doesn't take a genius to get us there. and no, that's NOT good enough. just like zook wasn't good enough at UF. resting on your laurels and just being satisfied with what your team did in the last decade (and once at the very beginning of this one) will cause your program to fade into obscurity. after raising the baseball program to the elite heights at which it once was, getting pounded every weekend (as well as mid-week) is a little embarassing. and frankly, i'm tired of it. LSU baseball is better than this.
I agree, we are already fading into obsurity, we can't have feel the stadium on a awesome day when one of the premier teams in the SEC comes to town. 4000 in attendence is terrible. According to few with Baseball America, LSU has certainly lost a lot of its hype it had in the 90's. I have to put most of the blame on Smoke.
