gzilla, if you don't want people who disagree with you debate your remarks that you shouldn't post them, especially when you are flat out wrong. Than you won't have to resort to personal attacks when others point out you are wrong. The fact is Clay has done much more than a serviceable job at second base. He's also hitting .364 and has a .976 fielding percentage, pretty good. How many second basemen in the SEC are above that? And what is their production compared to Harris'?

Let's see, hitting .364, 31 RBI's, .434 on base percentage, 75 total bases, 5 HR's, 10 doubles, 48 total hits. And he's not working out on the defensive or the offensive end? You're the joke, for using Harris as an example of Smoke's being a bad coach. Maybe he had some damn good reasons for putting Harris at second, looks like it to me.

Don't forget the hand gestures, too.

That would have have to been f***ing hilarious to be standing in the right field stands, watching Skip standing on the hill, gesticulating wildly at all these young men around him, hearing the occasional #*%@# and/or
F-bomb echoing from his mouth across the field.

God, how I do miss the man. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

I was tempted to tack on "McFly" to that "HELLO", but I refrained, feeling that would have been a little bit too smartass.

(psst you may be right since that ump in omaha had a wider strike zone than gregg in mlb but i wasnt gonna admit that given the importance of the game)

at the time they looked like perfect strikes to me. didnt they to you? :hihi: :hihi:

    I wasn't complaining.

I remember that game like it was yesterday. I had just come off my two-week AT w/ my Guard unit, made final formation that morning, and listened to the first four innings of the game crossing the Causeway on my way to some fun in N.O. I watched the remainder of the game at The Chart Room on Bienville and Chartres. Walked right past Paulie Shore in the Quarter that day, but I wasn't about to stop and talk to him...didn't want to be seen w/ him. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

oh i know you werent complaining. Just funny when some of these umps on any level try to be more important than the game. They should be fired immediately.

I know if they are consistent thats most important but some are over the top. Id have to can them. You're a fat ump, quit drawing unwarranted attention to yourself.

Again, you missed the point (on purpose I suppose so that you have an argument). I agree that Clay is doing a solid job at 2nd especially given his limited defensive abilities. He's not by any means playing GREAT defensively. If you think he is, you don't know what you are talking about.

What he's batting is irrelevant. He'd be batting the same thing if he was playing 1st base.

Let me teach you a little baseball. It is optimal that the middle of your defense be pretty strong. Optimally, you want your shortstop, 2nd baseman and center fielder to have good range. The greatest percentage of balls are hit toward these three positions.

I am making the contention that Clay Harris breaks that mold. Do you agree? Smoke has him playing there so that he can put more big bats in the lineup.

What I'm saying is not news. You know that Clay Harris wouldn't be playing 2nd base on any other team in the SEC. He would be playing first or perhaps 3rd.

So the bottom line is, when you build your team around power, at the expense of defense, and depend on scoring runs to win, and it turns out your team can't hit, you get the blame.

Again Dav, is there anything that Smoke has done that is worthy of criticism this year?
