Where do we stand with JC QB Mettenberger?

That is my whole point Bandit88, with Lee and Jefferson being Srs. and we bring in Mettenberger to push them. That will leave Rivers to be Red Shirted and just learn the system. Who knows if Mettenberger don't play next year, he could be Red Shirted as well.

Mettenberger can't redshirt. He gets 3 years to play 3 years.

I'm not sure if he'd beat out JL for the starting job, but if he's not good enough to atleast come in and play 2nd string QB then I don't understand why we'd waste the time on him... neither Lee nor Jefferson imo are saviors for LSU in '11.

    It's about 2012 and 2013. Not 2011.

2011 would be lagniappe. We'll see. The kid may be amazing and Miles may have no choice but to start him. It's probably more plausible that he's still raw, hasn't been coached up enough yet, has trouble grasping the program in just one Spring and offseason, hasn't seen the speed and athleticism of an SEC quality program (BIG difference between JC and SEC), etc.

Personally, I hope he's the chit! But I think he'll be a backup in 2011.

He doesn't have to beat out JL for the job because JL is not the starter.....and apparently never will be.

He has to better than what we have now. Also, he isn't just some scrub QB coming in. Before getting kicked off the team at Georgia, by most accounts, he beat out a big time recruit in Aaron Murray for the starting job his first offseason. Either way you look at it, it's someone that can come in and compete. It also gives everyone something to be optimistic about, instead of just looking forward to this same QB circus next year.

:geaux: This. I'm hopin' & prayin' that Mettenberger comes to LSU. The lack of consistent play at QB is just killin' this team right now. :LSU231:
