Hmm. Doesn't surprise me that the Dome could be ready by then, but will New Orleans be ready to handle a game then? I think that's the bigger question.
I would think the game would be a go even without the hotels and resteraunts etc. 3 weeks should be enough time to have the services of Police , Fire and paramedics good to go. I would say that the superdome area is on a high priority to get back up to snuff. One problem is they need to find a place for the prople currently staying in the dome. On another not LSU is Open Date that weekend.
Yeah, you gotta realize that those of us from south LA have, by neccessity, dissociated ourselves from the emotional burden that is the Saints. For a brief time, the Dome Patrol lured many of us non-Masochists out, but we paid dearly.
And you gotta realize that some of us are still Saints fans and maybe the thought of seeing our hometown team still be able to play can take our minds off the devastation. I know that I, for one, am looking forward to the preseason game on Thursday night, because it just shows that we can still operate in the face of such a horrible situation. I also wonder what will happen with the season. Yes, there are more important things than football right now, but lets be honest, if this thing had hit Baton Rouge and caused significant damage to Tiger Stadium, EVERYONE would be wondering when and where LSU would play.
What was it 2 years ago there was talk of redoing the Superdome and it was said that the Saints would play at Tiger Stadium. Which wouldnt be that bad of any idea, just leave the tailgate stuff up and drink all night. ONE long party.
Figures...San Antonio.... Guess someone should tell Benson that his "outdated" Superdome just spared the lives of thousands of people (wouldn't have gotten that protection from a retractible roof stadium, with a glass top)... Also, hope Benson realizes that with the destruction, money will be going to things more important than a new stadium for many, many years.
I work for the Sports Radio station here in San Antonio, and there is a push to have it at the Alamodome if the Saints aren't ready. It would be a natural fit. And it looks like the aftermath is getting worse in N.O. It would be a very somber celebration to land the game here.
