So, playing in the SEC isn't tough, as a whole? Only the top half? That would mean 4 cupcakes and a couple of "consistent losers", leaving only a handful of competitive teams (three or four) to get by depending on the rotation?
This changes one dimension of your offense, dual threat QB, but shouldn't cause much of a hiccup with the talent surrounding your QB. When I started thinking about this a few QB's came to mind that were not game breakers; Tee Martin, Jay Barker, Craig Krentzel are a few.
Thing is - we still don't know if Lee or Hatch will be game breakers or not. Tough to look good in the Spring Game against one of the best defenses in the country - both looked pretty good. Who knows? Can you smell the uncertainty?
No, I don't sense uncertainty any more now than I did from you guys a few months ago. It does add another question mark, but with your OL and RB's you have what a lot refer to as a QB's best friend. Your first three games should be a good chance for both to adapt to the play. If I had a question (as an LSU fan) it would be will Auburn attempt to stack the box to make your QB throw the ball.
Vanderbilt, Kentucky, State and Ole Myth perform a valuable role in the SEC by happily losing, decade after decade. Otherwise the SEC could not have six perennial contenders. Besides, Vandy and Kentucky are major assets in basketball. State is an asset in baseball and Ole Miss has more babes per capita than any school in the country.
The uncertainty I refer to is in execution on the field, not in the fans' minds. Lee and Hatch's ability to lead LSU in the SEC is uncertain, by any reasonable standard. With all due respect to my fellow forum fanatics, I could care less about our personal uncertainty about the season. I could care less if teams stack the box. That's what Gary Crowton gets paid to do - exploit that mistake. Lee/Hatch have had an entire season of practice and the Spring QB competition to learn the LSU/Crowton system. Did they? I'm hopeful but ignorant on that point. With the tools at hand, the only real question is will Lee/Hatch have the composure to get the ball to our very good receiving corps without throwing more ints than Flynn did last year?
Tommy Hodson was a redshirt freshman in 86. We went 9-2, were SEC champs, beat a top 5 Texas A&M team and went to the sugar bowl. Be realistic, but there's a lot of talent around whoever plays QB.
