Let's not forget that winning the West is still not out of the question (Arky still have Tennessee and AU has UGA and Bama). Running the table and getting to the Sugar Bowl is, of course, the best case (w/ a possible matchup with Notre Dame. Cool.) That being said, the Cotton or one of the Fla games seem like best bets (Cotton definitely if LSU goes 9-3). Personally, I'd like to see a non-Sugar Bowl bound LSU go to the Cotton Bowl. It's been 4 years since the last appearance and it will come against a Big XII team smack dab in the middle of their recruiting backyard--Texas. In other words, LSU gets some nice, national exposure in a natural recruiting area for the Tigers. Plus, the short drive from Houston is cool as well (but the early kickoff sucks).
Our projections by a few articles have us at the Outback vs. Penn St. or the Cotton vs. Oklahoma. Both of these matchups are good for me but I would rather win the West and SEC and make the Sugar vs. ND or whoever.
Obviously I would love to see the Tigers win the west and make it to the Sugar Bowl...but since many things will have to happen to make that possible, I am not holding my breath. With that being said...I would love for us to have a shot at Southern Cal...and I don't care where it is. They could play in the middle of the street and I would be there to watch the beat down that should have happend in 03! GEAUX TIGERS!!!
I agree, I'd like to see us play USC. Don't care where or when. We played them back in 79 in Baton Rouge, McClendon's last year as head coach. They were rated #1 at the time, and we had them down late in the 4th qtr., they made a drive for a touchdown and won the game (12 - 17 if I remember, don't feel like looking it up). We also lost to 2 other #1 rated teams at the time we played them, Nebraska early in the year (1st game?), and Alabama late in the year. One of the toughest schedules we ever had, when else have we faced 3 #1 rated teams in one year? We lost against each #1 rated team, but they were ALL CLOSE. I always remember the 79 squad as one of the biggest hearted, hardest fighting Tiger teams I ever saw. I've said it before on here, but for the newbies, remember the 79 Tigers!
