I'm trying to be objective here, but nobody really jumps out.Of course I'm a homer but I voted Florida even though they wont be undefeated if they were to make it.
I'm picking LSU. I am disheartened by so little respect given the team that won the BCSNC last year. I've seen preseason polls that have South Florida and Texas Tech ranked higher than LSU. Their reasoning..we lost some players. Well we got some more players, It's not like we're going to play 6 players on defense for goodness sake. The pivotal game is of course the Auburn game. In my opinion the winner of this game will go on to win the SEC championship. If it's LSU I think they go 11- 1 and If that comes to pass I don't see how they can be denied a chance to defend their title. I don't get all the Ohio State love. Of course it's the media. No sooner had the tears dried from last January that the media was touting Ohio St. as No. 1 again. They have all their players back they say. Well these are the same players that got dominated last January. They have 5 all americans they say. Well I watched the game twice and I didn't see any All Americans. I'm running out of time. LSU to play and defeat Oklahoma next Jan. in the Orange Bowl.
And yet, the only poll that matters has us ranked #6, and well above those teams. Who cares what other meaningless polls say? Everything I have read says that the SEC champ will probably get the nod with one loss. Much as LSU got it with two losses last year. Obviously if it's LSU, we should go to the NCG. No, it's reality. That was a good, young, inexperienced team we beat last year. Not the same one Florida faced at all. And they will not be the same one this year either. Who is to stop them, but themselves? IMO, if Oklahoma faces them, the sooners will get shellacked. USC changes their qb and their Oline, and they will have faced them once already. If it's another SEC team, victory is hardly guaranteed. Tedious as it may seem, OSU may very well make it back and win the NC this year. Vegas certainly thinks so, so it's not outrageous to suggest it. I am a big LSU homer, but I can't deny the reality of how this year might play out. I am hoping for an undefeated season and another NC, but the odds are stacked against us. The SEC isn't going to win it all every year.
Did they all get faster during the summer? If not, they'll get waxed again. The condoms may expose them early.
I would agree that they were a good, young team last year. But I saw nothing that made me think they will be a great team this year. Not once did I think, wow, these guys have potential. I understand that OSU just needs to be good to get through their conference and have a shot at the NC game. And this may occur. But for the sake of college football, I hope a better team makes the cut. I pick usc. Good momentum late. Lots of talent. Easy schedule. (I know I know.)
I'm not sure what you guys saw, but I did not see a huge gap in talent when we played. I did however see a huge mental gap. When we came storming back, they responded with mental mistakes, critical personal fouls, etc. Hell, look at their faces in the 2nd quarter. I thought they were beaten right then. I just attributed it to them not having any real tough games like we did. We were much more resilient, and at that level it shows up in big games. Perhaps I'm wrong and they lay a huge egg again, but we will just have to wait and see. They have to get past USC first.
Assuming it comes down to several one-loss teams, I say based on SOS it'll be the SEC champ vs. the Big XII champ. The toughest conference of the modern era vs. the second-toughest. OK / Mizzou vs. LSU / UF. I think any matchup regarding the above four teams would be a tough one to call. But it's still SO early. For all we know, Duke might rise up and destroy all comers. :rolleye33:
A two loss SEC team making the BCS title game was a fluke last year. Things just fell right at the end. That won't happen again this year. So the real question is can an SEC team lose only one game this year? I don't think so. I think everyone ends up with two loses after the SEC championship game. That being said USC/OSU has the most talent and the easiest schedule. Take your pick.
If they ace that schedule, they should not even have to play in the NC game. Just give 'em the crystal.
