ESPN Insider has an article by him that basically says "I told you so" in that Duke was exposed for their lack of athleticism and that LSU had all the makings for a team to beat Duke.

Since its for subscribers only, am I breaking any rules by posting the article? If it's good to go, I'd be happy to post it, but I don't want to get the site in trouble. Mods?

I told you so, then I talked myself out of it. Then I told myself again, and still didn't change anything. Confused? So am I.

Duke simply was not athletic enough to compete at the highest level this year. Early in the year we saw it, knew it and tried to explain it. Late in the year, though, I somehow came to the conclusion that Duke -- or more specifically, Coach K -- would find a way. Boy was I wrong. And right.

LSU had all the makings of a team that could beat Duke. Athletic guards that Greg Paulus and J.J. Redick would struggle to keep in front of them, long wing players that would not give Redick any clean looks, and quality size and depth inside that would pound bodies at Shelden Williams while attacking the offensive glass. It all seemed to add up way back in December. It all seems to add up now. So why again did I think Duke was the real deal?

Maybe it was because of LSU's inexperience or that head coach John Brady has been maligned for his teams' inability to take the next step in the NCAA Tournament. This team also lacks a true point guard and Glen "Big Baby" Davis continues to handle the ball on the perimeter, rather than get his tail down in the post where he dominates.

Going in, I thought this game featured a coaching mismatch, a decision-maker mismatch at the point and an experience mismatch of epic proportions. Little did I know that I was two-thirds right, just favoring the wrong team.

LSU constantly focused on getting back in transition. With Duke walking the ball up the court, there were very few easy shots for J.J. Redick, even fewer penetration lanes for Paulus, and Sean Dockery was a non-factor. Whether it was the sluggish pace, the quickness of Darrel Mitchell or the size of Garrett Temple, Tasmin Mitchell and Darnell Lazare, Duke was unable to gain any advantage situations and the game became a slug-fest in the half court.

LSU also squeezed the high post on Paulus, meaning when Williams or Josh McRoberts set a high ball screen, the Tiger defenders squeezed up close to their offensive man, thus allowing Darrel Mitchell or Tasmin Mitchell to go way under the screen, but also beat Paulus to the other side. With the defender going way under the screen, Paulus was reluctant to shoot a long 3 over Williams or McRoberts and the man who was guarding them, rendering the high screen ineffective.

The Tigers played "tag" or "tailgated" off of every screen on Redick by getting right behind him and not "cheating" by cutting through the screens and leaving Redick alone. Temple pressured every shot and when Redick did drive, the Tigers came over to help and made him pass. When he passed the ball, Dockery and others could not make a shot; when Redick tried to finish, LSU swatted away shot after shot and frustrated the ACC's all-time leading scorer.

For some reason, it took until late in the regular season for Temple to provide the blueprint that ultimately took down Duke: Make someone other than Redick beat you. While Temple used a box-and-one, LSU used man-to-man with help principles at all times.

Also, John Brady made two correct strategic decisions that shaped this game. On the first play of the second half, Davis was called for his third foul, but Brady chose to leave him in the game and LSU never lost rhythm by taking out its best player. Also, Brady came out of several timeouts and called plays to get the ball inside to Davis. Because of that commitment, Duke was forced to guard Davis, and that opened up second-shot chances for Tyrus Thomas off of offensive rebounds.

Conversely, Duke ran an isolation play for Josh McRoberts out of a timeout with the score tied at 53 with less than two minutes remaining, when Sheldon Williams had all of their points.

We thought experience would be a key, yet Duke is now 1-4 in its last five Sweet 16 games.

LSU was far more athletic and prepared for a week to execute a solid game. I felt great while watching, knowing long ago I forecasted the downfall of Duke against a team with superior physical tools. Then I looked at my bracket -- the one with Duke in the finals -- and shook my head.

How many so called "experts" are going to go back and say "I told you so" over the next 24 hours. "Douggie" is nothing but a moronic talking head who tries to be intelligent, but just rattles off his mouth. Then, when he's wrong (and he's wrong often... ) he quickly retreats and then pretends like he called it.

ESPN would be better without this guy.

Although, he did try to say some nice things about the team and Brady to make up.

I thought Duke was going to beat LSU like a "drum," Doogie G...

I give the guy props for admitting he was wrong. How many times did Trev Alberts write a whole article about how he was wrong? Yeah, Doug G did try to make himself "partially" right, but at least he admits he was right for the wrong team...
