Matt Mauck...incredible winning record and oh by the way led LSU to a national championship. Now talent wise, I'd take Bert Jones.
Bert Jones would be a shoe-in for me, the guy was incredible and would throw for 4000 yards and 35 TD's at least in today's game. He was on a few good Colts teams, not a bunch. They were terrible when he got there and he played for Irsay, the worse owner in football. He had a rocket for an arm, good touch, was accurate, calm in the pocket and good run very well when he had to.
He had all the tools but not the head or the touch IMO. I remember watching a game vs Auburn I believe. They showed the Auburn throw a deep out and he had to float the pass out to the sideline. Than they showed Jeff throw a "frozen rope" as the announcer called it and he went on to say that there were probably only 4 or 5 QB's in the country that could make that throw.
Oh man, I wish I did. I just remember my initial reaction as it left his hand, "Wow, he really put some juice on that one." Then, as it sailed OVER all the players on the bench...wow, that was a Manny Ramirez-level play. I laugh about it now, just thinking about it. Even Booty throwing off his back foot wouldn't have done that!
I'd have to go with Tommy Hodson. He was the QB when I was coming of age where I was old enough to start following LSU thoroughly--I mean, don't get me wrong, I followed LSU before that, but '85-'86 was about the time that I was reading up on them on my own, saving newspaper clippings, etc. I even had one of those "Hodson for Heisman" posters. :thumb: I would say starting with Hodson, and working my way to present-day, my ranking list would be: 1. Hodson :helmet: :geauxtigs 2. Matt Mauck :crystal: 3. Rohan Davey :champs: 4. Herb Tyler ldskule: 5. Mickey Guidry ldskule: 6. JaMarcus Russell :tigerhead 7. Josh Booty  8. Marcus Randall  9. Chad Loupe  10. Jaimie Howard
