Xavier=Better overall receiver, big body, poss. receiver, great hands. Early= quicker, makes huge plays-especially in big games, more of a game breaker type. Both will be great college football players, really will depend on who will fit into the LSU offensive better, though Early will make big plays on special teams no matter what happens on the offensive side of the ball-can't wait to watch these two.
lol! Okay, I wonder how the following things weigh in to the equation when everyone makes their decision as to which guy is the better receiver right now: 1. Since he was primarily used as a running back, how does the fact that Early hasn't caught the ball from the receiver position factor into it? Does that give a head start to Carter who's played nothing else? 2. How does one factor into it the fact that Early has trained exclusively (as far as I know) for football and Carter has trained for other sports, but they will receive the same training this fall going into their fresman year? Does that mean Carter may improve his game more with practice, or that Ducet has "football skills" which Carter doesn't? 3. How does one factor into the equation that Carter is the faster player? 4. How does one factor into the equation that Carter is the taller player and has a better vertical, therefore can reach jump balls better? 5. How does one differentiate their running styles? Based on that one little video, Early looks like he saw there was no hole on the right side so he turned around and outran everyone to the other side. I assume that, since Carter is a world class sprinter he's capable of the same thing. 6. Is it safe to assume that Ducet is the more physical player? Since he played running back he would have taken more of a beating, but now Carter has added some weight and is actually heavier than Ducet. 7. Does the fact that Ducet could play a little quarterback factor into this at all? 8. If Ducet is that great of a runner once he catches the ball, then why move him to receiver, why not leave him at running back where he would get more touches? 9. Does the fact that Ducet is shorter and squatter automatically mean he will run the better route? Short guys usually do. 10. Here's a tricky one, which guy has the better hands and how are we to know? That's a pretty important part of receiving. The fact that Ducet played running back could either mean that his coach wanted to get him as many touches as possible and didn't have a QB who was capable of getting him the ball, or he didn't feel Ducet had the hands to play receiver. Carter had a lot of yards, but he didn't make a whole lot of catches. Was he dropping the ball, or did his quarterback suck? Anybody know? 11. Having played running back, does that automatically mean Ducet is the better run blocker, or do Carter's longer arms offset that? 12. Is Carter willing to go over the middle and take a hit? The speculation about "sprinters" is generally that they are afraid of contact, I haven't heard that about Carter, has anyone else? 13. Does Carter's speed add to his value when running the reverse? 14. Define "better receiver", are you talking about number of catches, yards per catch, deep threat to keep the safeties honest, yards after the catch, blocking in the run game, dependability, or is this kind of a "best combination of all of the above" kind of question?
Answering that question about Douchet at running back and getting more tocuhes due the fact that he's a great runner once he has the ball-you don't get the open field to work with at the running back spot all that often, and everytime he would touch the ball at receiever he could make something big happen, he can move more freely at the receiver position , I believe that would suit him much better.
The question about Carter dropping the ball, you really dont know because on rivals youre only going to see his highlight film, and nobody drops the ball in their highlight film, only the coaches get to see the whole game films from his high school playing days. That and seeing him play in person is usually what coaches decide on whether to or not to offer the player a scholarship. Honestly those highlight films really dont mean jack. Anybody can look good in highlight film, though some do look better than others.
From what I have seen and heard from things and people who have seen him in camp, I've heard he has great hands, but will see when a 230lb. LB is about to light him up on a dig route. WHO KNOWS-ALL talking and speculating right now, though talking is a very fun thing to do.
1. Since he was primarily used as a running back, how does the fact that Early hasn't caught the ball from the receiver position factor into it? Does that give a head start to Carter who's played nothing else? Since Carter didn't specialize on football there are no advantages. Carter will improve with the focus on football now. He gave up the opportunity to run track professionally ($$$) this past summer. He's never participated in HS spring ball but for the last week of camp. He hasn't reached his potential in football or track. 3. How does one factor into the equation that Carter is the faster player? It just means he will be a great clear-out guy for Doucet's underneath stuff. 4. How does one factor into the equation that Carter is the taller player and has a better vertical, therefore can reach jump balls better? May come into play during the NFL draft. 5. How does one differentiate their running styles? Based on that one little video, Early looks like he saw there was no hole on the right side so he turned around and outran everyone to the other side. I assume that, since Carter is a world class sprinter he's capable of the same thing. Carter has speed to burn & doesn't need a lot of moves to get to the house. Early is very elusive & powerful, with good speed . 6. Is it safe to assume that Ducet is the more physical player? Since he played running back he would have taken more of a beating, but now Carter has added some weight and is actually heavier than Ducet. Early is more physical. It looks like he can be an outstanding blocker & should be able to make the tough catches over the middle. Carter is not heavier than Doucet. Carter is 200lbs, while Doucet is around 215lbs. 7. Does the fact that Ducet could play a little quarterback factor into this at all? Yes, he did handle the ball more & this could indicate that he is not fumble prone. 8. If Ducet is that great of a runner once he catches the ball, then why move him to receiver, why not leave him at running back where he would get more touches? Well I think he will see the field earlier at WR. 9. Does the fact that Ducet is shorter and squatter automatically mean he will run the better route? Short guys usually do. Not neccessarily. There are penty of tall WR's who runs outstanding routes. Since I know; Palm Bay HS is a running team that only passes the ball about 8 times a game. The kid was doubled & triple covered all season long. He had two drops this year. 11. Having played running back, does that automatically mean Ducet is the better run blocker, or do Carter's longer arms offset that? No, Carter played in a top notch football program (2 state championships) that is a running team. The WR's have to block for the team to be successful. 12. Is Carter willing to go over the middle and take a hit? The speculation about "sprinters" is generally that they are afraid of contact, I haven't heard that about Carter, has anyone else? Carter will go over the middle & make the reception. He also lead his team in kick coverage tackles & usually pins the apposing team inside the 15 yard-line. 13. Does Carter's speed add to his value when running the reverse? If anyone saw the LSU recruiting video where Xavier ran a reverse & just outran all angles. The play was on about the 43 yard-line & when he turned up at the 40 yard-line I put a stop watch to it. 4.1 in pads! Now he was already moving so take that into consideration. 14. Define "better receiver", are you talking about number of catches, yards per catch, deep threat to keep the safeties honest, yards after the catch, blocking in the run game, dependability, or is this kind of a "best combination of all of the above" kind of question? I think Carter & Doucet are just outstanding WR's. They will compliment each other & we fans will just enjoy their talents.
Hah, you coward, you won't say which one is better either! Thanks for the input. I assume you're down in the Florida area since you got to see Carter. You didn't happen to see any interviews that might give some insight into his personna did you?
I actually know Xavier & he's very competitive. He hates to lose at anything & works his tail off. He doesn't read press clippings & is very humble. Xavier gets labeled for being a track guy but he's a legend in our County for all sports. Not many recruits can say they were recruited for 3 sports in HS.
Start off by belittling my intelligence and then spell words like.....  ......could it be that you just typed "real slow" cause you are? Let's clear one thing up, chooey. I'm not trying to convince anyone that Doucet has better potential than Carter. These are the reports coming from those who have observed them both. Having never seen either one play extensively, who am I to challenge this? I'm pretty sure that these reports are quite accurate. Those who evaluate talent are usually pretty knowledgable on the subject, but then again Gandalf knows just a little more than most.
