Miles had to run much more at OSU because he was under-manned against a lot more talented teams. I doubt using his past can properly prepare people for what he will do with a team as loaded as any in the SEC.
Miles is still faced with a ton of decisions to make because of all of the new intangibles he has to deal with. Kind of reminds me of when Spurrier first arrived at Florida. Coming from Duke, where he lived and died on the offensive side of the ball, it took him a few seasons to make his defense more of a priority. The Nebraska title game and the 31-31 UF-FSU tie in Tallahassee wised him up for good. (UF lead 31-3 going into the 4th quarter. FSU scord 28 points in the 4th quarter and Spurrier never did win a game in Tallahassee) The game against Arizona State should speak volumes about what priorites Miles has formulated for the season.
As far as recruiting circles go, LSU WRs gets lots of love (2 five stars). It is understandable that our WRs aren't highly touted due to lack of publicity. I mean how many sportscenter highlights were they in, besides Bowe running on muddy field in a game saving TD against OSU. Hopefullly, one of the QBs will allow our talented WRs to show the country what they got.
This will change after our 2nd or 3rd game when the country realizes how good our receivers are. Right now, there's too much uncertainty for the media to hype up LSU, IMO. Hype doesn't matter. Respect does. We'll earn the respect.
I agree with what you said, however, we need to be ranked no less than number 5 in the first rankings in order to have a shot at the NC. We all saw what happened to AU last year. If we had started the season ranked as low as them and, ran the table, it would have been us. If you end up with 3 or 4 undefeated teams, it's all about where you were ranked at the beginning of the season.
Salty, I think Cparso was referring to a ranking of Wr's only, not the team itself. I believe our WR's are not getting a lot of great pub right now because they haven't proven much yet on the field, due to the QB situation last year, Skyler's injury, Bowe's many dropped passes, lack of long receptions, the fact they were inexperienced and had a hard time running routes as well as getting the separation, etc. I believe they will surprise many fans this coming season because of better QB play, good health and experience, giving them the ability to use their exceptional talents.
I think you have pretty much hit the nail on the head here. I am not as optimistic as some that Jamarcus will emerge "big time". He played excellent on occasions (Oregon St., Iowa) when he got in, and horrible at times also. He will just be a soph., and it may take another year. I'll be thrilled if he looks composed and mature, but based on his on-field so far, he looked a long way off last season. Jason Cambell didn't look real good till his Sr. season, IMO. One tendency we have as fans is to read all the high school recruiting clips on these kids and believe them. It doesn't always work out. Some are world beaters in high school, and mediocre in college. Same with NFL draft picks, remember Ryan Leaf? Some unhearalded kids grow up a bit late in college and emerge as a late bloomer. The press clippings on our receivers are astounding. I've seen flashes from almost all of them, Skylar, Bowe, Davis, Doucet, Carter. They are still young, and I think they'll develop and emerge with some stars. But they will have to earn the status. The only one that has earned it so far is Skylar Green, I say he's the real deal.
Silly me, I was flipping around so much that I forgot which thread I was in. Thought I was in here....ESPN "Experts" early rankings... Ya got me. :thumb:
