Why can't we get a deep kickoff?

I've been puzzling over this one. I know the kickoff was moved back five yards, but most of our kicks go to the 5-10 yard line. Is that by design? Wouldn't it be better to have more touchbacks?

I hope someone who knows more than I do (there have to be a BUNCH of 'ya) can answer this one for me. Thanks for your support.:eek:ldskule:

Because we don't have a kicker with the leg strength to do it consistently.

Probably because we have two true freshman kickers doing kickoffs for us.

Thanks for your responses....I was hoping it was a little more esoteric than that, but guess it is that simple.:eek:ldskule:

If we had a kicker with the leg to get it into the endzone, we would do so. But when we can't, it is dangerous to let a guy catch it on the 5 or 10 with room to run and follow his blockers, they can get it up to the 30 or 35 regularly. Better to kick it to him high with hang time so he gets it on the 15 or 20 and instantly gets hit by the headhunters.
