Tulane just stopped being competitive in football. At one point Tulane lost 25 straight games to LSU, three by the score of 62-0.

All lies. Tulane fans went extinct in 1974. It is a scientific fact.

It's to LSU's direct benefit that Tulane *did* leave the SEC.

I'm not saying Tulane would have remained a nationally-viable power, as it was many decades ago, had it stayed but make no mistake they'd be a well sight better off than they are right now...and, as an in-state SEC school, it would have come at LSU's expense for the most part.

In all seriousness Tulane was duped out of the league by GA Tech. Tech wanted to be the Notre Dame of the south, and thought being an independent would help them acheive that. They tricked Tulane into leaving the conference for the wealth that independence would bring.

I was referring more to actual Tulane fans such as Bobby and Big E instead of fake characters.

During the Spring of 1978, I was watching the Green Wave football team conduct a Spring Training Practice on a practice field just OUTSIDE the Old Sugar Bowl Stadium.
There, I overheard an eccentric old Tulane football fan moaning and groaning about how Tulane had been essentially forced to leave the SEC
"back in the 60's" because the SEC (according to him) had given Tulane a "secret ultimatum":
Make 2 changes or leave the SEC for "Lack of Southern Etiquette".
The two changes required by the SEC (according to him) were:
    1) give up the color combination of green and blue AND
    2) add an "s" at the end of Green Wave (to make it "Green Waves").
This man said that only the "Tulane Insiders" even knew about this ultimatum.
(He claimed to be "an old Tulane Insider".)
I'll never forget what this man said was "the Tulane Insider's" response to the secret SEC Ultimatum.
According to this man, the Tulane response was:
    "When Alabama changes its name to the "Alabama Pink Tide ";
then, and only then, will Tulane
    1) abandon its color combination of green and blue and
    2) add an "s" at the end of "Green Wave".
