I agree that the increased exposure would be great for our conference. However, I have to respectfully disagree with the notion that the SEC doesn't already have the nation's respect. Am I the only one who notices the praise that all the sportcasters and commentators throw out there regarding the SEC in recent years? WE ARE RESPECTED ALREADY. What more do you want? At the beginning of this football season, there was the big question of what was the better conference- the SEC or the PAC-10. There were good points for both, though my overall impression was that most of these guys thought the SEC was the better conference... because most of them SAID IT. Again, what more do you want? We have some severe issues here in the south. It's not enough to be the best, or have everyone think we're the best; for some reason, we insist on even more. I just don't think more respect is possible! (Also, I'm not picking on LSUguy individually, really; I'm referring to all the conspiracy theorists out there that think that everyone is actively trying to oppress the SEC. It just isn't true!)
And does the SEC really need another platform for football? It's got a sweet deal with CBS to air games nationally. ESPN carries a Saturday night game nationally. The SEC has good TV deals in place now (except for the LF broadcast which sucks balls). An SEC network would be good for basketball and non-revenue sports.
You make some vaild points, and I don't take your post as picking on me. But up until about a season or so ago... all i've heard is the Big Ten this or the Pac 10 that. And then certain sports writers calling our conference out because we don't average 50 points per game. I agree we are getting more recognition now... but I think there's still a ton of spots around the country who either don't know we exist or don't want to admit we exist. In all honesty I could care less... we all know who the best conference is... but like I said earlier i'd just like to see daily breakdowns of each team and the comparisons to each. As well as any updates and new from around the conference.
Thanks for understanding. :thumb: I would also love to have a channel that gave thorough SEC information. How cool would that be!? Although, it might hurt this forum. I might not spend AS MUCH time here every day!
I know up here in Philly that you have to buy the extra sports package to get the BTN. Up until this year, the Penn St. games were on every week. Now they are only on when they play big time games. Seems to me that they are only hurting the fans that cant afford the upgraded sports package. I have been able to watch every LSU game this year for free except the Midd Tenn game which I bought for $19.99. The SEC has a pretty good TV package. I can even watch the early JP Sports(Lincoln Financial) game every week on yahoo sports for free. It would be cool to have an SEC network as long as it didnt affect the TV deals we have now.
My only gripes with the SEC TV package are that CBS doesn't do a weekly doubleheader and LF broadcasts through a webcam.
