Please list all of the obligations we are required to pay for under the constitution.

    Deflecting again.

"That said, I could see a top marginal tax rate of 50% for every dollar earned over a million per year. This also allows us to keep tax rates lower for middle class families and fulfill our obligations. "

the 16th amendment is the part of the constitution that allows for taxation in order to pay for our obligations, and it doesn't have to state those obligations because congress is tasked with that responsibility as they are the ones with the power to enforce taxation and for whatever they deem necessary. what is so obscure about that? ironically, this is also the amendment that John Roberts cited to uphold the ACA, so trying to deny that the 16th amendment allows for congress to tax in order to fulfill our obligations would be a fools game.

SO free ice-cream can be an "obligation". Day-by-day you turn more into a shrill.

The audacity to think that anyone should have to pay 50% + tax is widely retarded and history does not seem to be a strong point in your toolset.

Boy are you misguided. ACA was not passed only for the 16th amendment only that the "penalty" can be called a tax.

Nowhere in the constitution does it say or reference that the government provide Healthcare.

Citing the 16th amendment shows your lack of intellectual resolve.

So in other words you cannot refute the fact that the 16th amendment does indeed provide congress the authority to tax......good.

    It doesn't have to.

Citing the 16th amendment shows that I know the law and you do not.

    Sigh.

The 16th is just the authority to tax. Not an authority to tax for whatever the fuck they want.

    You know this.

    Article I, Section 8, Clause 1:

The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.
Here it is in black and white. It very clearly states that congress has the power to levy taxes on anything that provides for the common defense and general welfare of the US. There are no exclusions in that statement. There are also no limitations on what the congress may levy taxes for.

do the people not duly elect the congress? of course they do, so the people are actually the facilitators of the congress and the actions that they take as representatives of their constituents.
