1. Garrett is a young talent. And young talent must be patient because one thing is certain . . . there is no way on earth that LSU is going to start Garrett in 2010. Inexperience at QB is the story of the last two seasons and Les is simply not going to start a third straight green quarterback.

The third-string quarterback is not much different from the third-string guard. You won't get much ink. You won't get many reps until you take away somebody's job on the second team. Nobody gets handed the reins. Garrett is going to have to be spectacular to take the job away from two experienced juniors. And nobody has used words like spectacular to describe him. They use words like big, strong, and smart. Les needs guys like that to keep developing so that they will be delivering when they are juniors.
  2. I agree Red that the chances of Garret starting are probably Slim although I don't think Jefferson has performed to the level that he should be guaranteed the job. Lee, for whatever reason, be it coaching or his own lack of development, hasn't shown that he should be guaranteed the number 2 post either. It's Spiring, not Fall practice and considering that Jefferson and Lee have yet to show that they are top tier SEC QB's, I think Garret should be getting more reps in the Spring.

  3. I think the reason why Jefferson is getting most of the reps is because he is a Jr. and has been playing as a true Fr. I just think that Coach Miles knows that Jefferson and Lee are Head and Shoulders above Garrett.

I looked at it this way last year, Jefferson was a So. and did not have the whole play book down and LSU had a poor year as for as win and lost goes. I give Jefferson and Coach Miles a push last year. But this year Jefferson should turn it up a notch.

What gets me is that Coach Miles is a great recruiter and some are saying that LSU could finish first in the Nation in recruiting. If the Boo Birds start to come out durning the football games and the Fans put Coach Miles on the hot seat. Where will the recruiting be if the recruits start hearing the Boo Birds?

I never boo at a College game, because the players are not getting paid and they are trying as hard as they can. Some times LSU is just playing a better team. I have been going to watch LSU play as far back as the Coach Mac days.

Now if you ask me if I ever boo at the Saints you bet I have.

  4. If I were a recruit I'd be far more interested in LSU's offensive production than what the fans do. If LSU finishes near the bottom of the nation in offense again, or even middle of the pack, recruits are going to get the same impression as the fans and seriously question just what in the hell they're doing down in Baton Rouge with all those Top 5 recruiting classes.
  5. There aren't enough hours in the practice day. No matter how good Garrett would look, he's not going to play so Miles needs to spend his time working with the 1 & 2.
  6. .
Perhaps so. He surely won't get many opportunities in the fall. And quarterbacks do get injured. But I think Les is also making sure that Lee doesn't think he is being passed up. He could still transfer if he thinks he's not being appreciated and leave us dangerously thin at QB. Garrett has time and apparently still needs some development. Neither Garret nor Shepard has threatened Lee so far.

“[Lee]comes to the field and wants to compete,” Miles said. “We had designs that somebody would go by him, but he isn’t allowing it. It’s nice to have another guy like that back there."
  7. Chris Garrett has been getting reps along with getting plenty of one-on-one time with Crowton during practices. He is working to get where he needs to be but I hear one area of concern is his rollout passing which has been addressed during the practices.

Miles is making sure JJ stays focused with his comments IMO because I have heard he is improving and has a firm lead on the other QBs. Especially taking on the leadership role on offense and making sure to go through his progressions.

Garrett will be ready when needed but you are not going to hear much about him given JJ and Lee have a clear lead over him at this time. Barrett Bailey is also having a nice spring from what I hear but is mainly getting reps throwing against the DBs when the units break off into individual sessions.
  8. In some ways, it's more important what you're NOT hearing about Garrett. Like, you're NOT hearing that his throwing motion sucks, or that he's working with the scout team, or that he can't complete passes.

I honestly thought he had a chance to push Lee for #2. But that pretty much depended on Lee kind of fading - and clearly, that just isn't in this kid's blood.

End of the day, Jarrett Lee's tenacity is the reason we're not hearing much about Chris Garrett. And I think that's a damned good thing.

  9. Thanks guys

very nice info from solid LSU football folk and all of it makes complete sense.

I never expected to read that CG was looking like a starter but I guess it is more how Lee has come on vs CG looking bad. I would love to see a nice young man like Lee that stuck with the team and lived through what he did make a move. You can't say the kid does not have a gun.

I am hoping to see progress with JJ and if JJ has a running game that is really a running game he will be a much better QB right off.

Looking forward to Sat at 3pm

  10. I'd like some more insight on Billy Gonzales and this passing game coordinator situation.

As far as JJ I hope he gets Jarret Lee's mistakes out of his mind and commands the offense like they need him to
