there seems to be a certain unexplainable belief that somehow bad marketing is the cause of our low attendance rather than the fans just not wanting to go watch an inferior product.
You don't. But you do have to promote a Spring games - contests, doorprizes the whole bit. Miles & Saban are all business, I believe they want to get some serious work done. Rivals Radio were talking about Florida's Sping game. They said this was Meyer's way of "Creating a QB controversy", which will make it easier on himself when he pulls Leak..
OK, I'll say it again. If the coach likes spring games and promotes them properly then lets the squads play an interesting game under the lights, the fans will come. Five bucks to sit in the sun and watch guys standing around practising brings you a small crowd, especially with two teams in the final four. Some coaches don't like spring games and do the minimum that their AD will let them get away with. Guess which type coach we have now.
LSU is the #5 ranked football team in the Nation, and preseason top 5 until proven otherwise. What "Inferior Product" are you speaking of?
OK. I have tallied up the excuses and I finally have my answer. This year it was the final four, the sun, and katrina. Last year it was the sun.
I don't feel like there is either any need to be 1) embarrassed by our attendance numbers for the spring game or 2) defend why more people didn't go. LSU is second to no one in supporting our football team during the season; there's no need to quibble over small details like the spring game.
