Well first I will say shreveport and detriot aren't as dirty and bad as miami. Also about the south la bais, I have to say I am guilty as charged. I guess living so far from home makes you more proud of where you come from! In fact I own more lsu stuff now that I live away from home then I did when I lived there! I wear my lsu stuff as a badge of honor and talk about south la with a pride and at times a distinct tone of "being better then others" at all times! But I have brought many a floridian home to visit and every one of them left understanding where I come from and why I love the place that I call home! In fact have made more then one of them lsu fans!
you underestimate the fear that white people have of black people. people moved from nola to metarie after desegregation. or if they didn't move they just put their kids in private schools. i only say that because people don't move to denham because it's a better city or has more to do, because that's wrong. they still drive into my city everyday for work, for shopping and for night life thus clogging the only two roads their city provides for that travel.
They need to go back to the Poulan Weedeater and Shreveport is probally the LAST place in the world to WITNESS first hand a Cross Burning in Someones Yard!:thumb:
I live in Avoyelles parish (right abov Evangeline and Point Coupee for those who don't know..about 40 minutes from Lafayette), and I have to say..once you get past Alexandria its like a completely different state. I go to school at Nothwestern up in Natchitoches..man its just weird to come home and hear how different everyone talks and acts and how different the places are.
Maybe this will help Shreveport. You have to admit the place where Elvis got his start is pretty impressive. ABOUT SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA Shreveport-Bossier City , La. is a mix of Southern charm and modern convenience. We welcome our visitors and treat our company like family, with heaping plates of good food and all the entertainment they can handle. Festivals are our trademark, and we hold them from the time the first warm breeze dances across our faces to the time the air turns noticeably nippy. Our festivals bring together longtime residents as well as visitors who come from nearby cities – and even from across the country -- just to experience our type of fun. Shreveport Bossier City festivals draw hundreds of thousands, from this state and lots more. Our artistic legacy runs deep. We have live theater and symphony performances, as well as comedy. Our museums highlight our rich history, including our place in musical lore as the place where Elvis Presley got his start on the Louisiana Hayride on the Municipal Auditorium’s stage. The twin cities of Shreveport and Bossier City have been here for more than 150 years. Shreveport was named for Capt. Henry Miller Shreve, a boat captain who cleared a logjam that clogged the Red River for 165 miles. It was Shreve’s work in the 1830s that opened the way for trade, allowing Shreveport to grow. The city was incorporated in 1839. Ours is a past of agriculture, lumber, and manufacturing. Oil gave us a boom, while tourism is the major industry of today. Bossier City got its start as a trading post in the 1840s, before becoming incorporated as Bossier City in 1907. A generation later, Barksdale Air Force Base arrived and became the world’s largest airfield of the time and a key player in World War II. We are conveniently located along the banks of the Red River, where we are home to riverboat casinos on both sides of the water. Shreveport-Bossier City, La. has become a key filming location for Hollywood productions, and attracts international attention.
exactly what are you referencing when you say that? you are not even remotely close to giving a fair description of Shreveport. While I am slightly biased, I'm not naive enough to think Shreveport is a choice city for everyone. "The middle of Mississippi with a town"??? way off brother, Shreveport has a mix of things from North and South Louisiana, which in my opinion is pretty top notch. There may be a lot of bigger and so called better cities out there in the US, but there is not one of em I would trade for any city in Louisiana. From Baton Rouge and Shreveport, to St. Martinville and Natchitoches, or Mamou and Haynesville...I love em all and you can't tell me there's a better place to live. And the Indy Bowl? It's only been one of the most long-standing, consistently growing lower-tier bowls on the landscape of college football. It's gone from a $50K payout (1976) to a $2.2M payout. While it may not have the history or glamour of the Sugar, Rose and the others, the Indy Bowl has certainly earned some degree of respect from the teams who play in it every year...and I would think there's quite a few teams that given the choice, would rather be in Shreveport than sittin at home for the New Year. sorry, it's not my intention to offend or flame, however I think you (and some of the others who are ragging on Shreveport and the Indy Bowl) are way off base.
Shreveport is the typical city of the south. The guys talkin crap about Shreveport maybe need to move around a little. I grew up near Shreveport and I will be the first to tell you its not the best city in the county. I can also tell you that it is not the worst. It has the same problems as every other city. At least the traffic is manageable.
