Sure other schools would get a tv contract if they could I won't deny that, I agree with your assesment and while I do give Notre Dame credit for having the TV contract, I still stand firm by what I said about that being an incredibly cocky statement ha. Especially in this day in age with computers and forums such as these, fans accross the nation come together more and more all the time with alumni and others who like you said have no link to the school other than just chose to like them. By the way Bitter, do your homework, in most if not all major cities accross the nation there are alumni chapters who gather and watch there favorite teams every saturday in the fall. It was definately true in the early days of football when there was one game on every saturday and one of those teams was usually always Notre dame, that Notre Dame has had many more decades to gain national exposure and interest. It also has alot to do with the fact that there are millions of Catholics in this country who will pull for Notre Dame simply because of their religious connection to ND. So I guess all I'm saying is congradulations, Bitter, your team has the only national network for every single game they play, but your not the only team with a national following, just start by looking at some of the people who represent from all corners of the country and regularly comment on this forum.
Me 2. Vince Young won 8 games as a starter, almost made it to the playoffs. And thats for a team that finished with the 3rd worst record in the league the year before.
Re: Why you are delusional and get your ass handed to you daily on this board Dude, well put, you are now my offical hero on this board until someone says it better than you did.
Thank God that ND is at least popular (or not - all publicity is good publicity right?) because they haven't been near the top of any ACTUAL poll for a while. Yep, winning the popularity contest really counts the most. That's why the best burgers in the world are also the most popular - McDonald's. PS It was a REAL PLEASURE coming home to the bayou to see LSU! kick Irish @ss. :thumb:
Do you really think ND had the same talent as SC or LSU last year? The fact is that ND has higher standards and expectations for its student-athletes, and it cannot recruit the same players that other schools can. With the top 100 high school recruits, I'd say probably one third to one half of them don't score high enough for ND to recruit. ND is not a football factory, and it would be unfair to those kids to recruit them when they couldn't handle the academic rigors of ND. But, Paul Horning was right. If ND wants to win more games, it needs to get more black players. Take two high school kids, where one kid funnels all his time and effort into school and the other kid funnels it into football. Do you really expect the football player to do as well in school?
The anti-ND media has taken a lot of potshots at Quinn before the draft. The truth is he is the most NFL ready QB and will be able to contribute immediately. Quinn will be a winner in the NFL, just like he was at ND. He is a workout warrior, and spends as much time in the filmroom as he did in the classroom. In the NFL, the most successful QBs like Brady and Manning are successful because they're smart QBs and understand the game, not because they're the best athletes on the field. But, JR didn't play in a pro style offense while BQ did and learned from Charlie Weiss, the same QB guru who taught Tom Brady. And, as you've all seen, there are still questions about JR's decision making abilities. I cannot see how you use a top pick on a project QB, knowing full well that its going to take several years to develop him. If you push him too early, he could be just as big of a disappointment as Ryan Leaf. Instead, I think you'd have to coddle him like the Vikings did with Daunte Culpepper and JR would probably see only limited action in his first year. Even then, I'd question if JR is really that good of a fit for the West Coast offense that the new Raiders coach wants to install. Against ND, JR just seemed to be throwing hail mary passes and letting his receivers come down with those passes against a overmatched ND secondary. With BQ, he could step in immediately and contribute. I'm sure that JR could eventually learn how to be a QB in the NFL if he was totally dedicated and focused. But, from what I've read, he went into the workouts kinda flabby. Before his biggest payday, he wasn't totally committed into getting the best shape. If he's not going to go in all throttle when all that money is on the line, what makes you think he'll do all the needed work after he gets paid.
Holy ****. Why the hell doesn't ND just do everybody a favor and drop the fotball program then. Put all that money into the Effin chess team where you have a chance. Seriously, your excuses for ND footbal sucking are starting to wear thin. And your starting to sound like your boyfriend Quinn.
Yes and I remember when Notre Dame fans were calling Rick Mirer the next Joe Montana too, how did that one work out? I thought BQ could be a quality NFL QB until I heard him crying like someone's prison bitch these last couple of weeks. The NFL is pretty tough on sissies, maybe he should go to cosmetology school and become a professional make up artist and hair dresser, I think it would be a better fit. :bncry: :bncry: :bncry: :bncry: :thumb: :thumb:
bitter, you have to stop guessing at stuff and actually get your info together before postulating your theories. Take a look at some of last year's Top 100 recruits and you'll find that nd's problem wasn't academic superiority but just being outrecruited and by more than one program. #72 Robert Hughes committed to nd and he's got a 2.5 GPA and a 17 on the ACT so we know those are at least minimal qualifying numbers for your irish. In addition, the 93rd recruit Akeem Ayers got into utla so he must have been a qualifier. The #1 recruit Everson Griffin reported a 3.3 GPA and a 1020 SAT The #2 recruit Joe McKnight reported a 2.7 GPA and an 18 ACT The #6 recruit Marc Tyler (offered by nd) reported a 2.5 and a 17 -Chris Gallipo (from Servite) had Charlie salivating and he chose USC. -Tolliver reported a 3.0 GPA, Jones reported a 24 ACT, and Barksdale reported a 3.5 GPA and 22 ACT and they ALL chose LSU and some in a head to head with nd. -Benn and Wilson were also qualifiers but chose Illinois in head to heads with nd. How can you claim academics when all the above players could have qualified, some were offered by nd, and yet none of them chose nd? For whatever reasons, the irish lost the recruiting battle and don't pull a BQ and start whining about unfair tactics by other coaches. Everyone knows that CW is right in the middle of that game. Oh, and of all those players above, Chris Gallipo is the only white guy.
