I truly believe that we did not have the personnel to field his defense. Yeah, Clay said something about not having anybody who could be his drop linebacker and that is the key to his defense.
Then what does that say about the coaching staff, and its ability to evaluate players. Shouldn't they get the players who can play that defense? And if they cannot, maybe they should switch after 4 years of it. Also, maybe the recruits see how horrible the defense is, and don't want to be a part of it. Defensive players are knocking themselves over to get to play here...if he changes that he will be run out of town in short order. Even if he turns into a Boise St. that wins because of outscoring their opponents, that will not set well around here.
Just returned from looking at the OSU forum board…..I don’t think I like their thinking. They are saying that good riddance to Bill Clay and hope that Miles takes him with him. They want to know where our DC will go if Bill Clay comes. They are saying “If Clay does go to LSU, where is your existing DC gonna go?? We should use the money we get from Les (err, LSU) and put it towards hiring Muscham! Now that would be a bit of irony. Give them our "has-been" DC, AND use their check to buy their own DC for the Pokes. Now that's a sweet deal! http://www.o-state.com It appears that we all feel that we are in the same “proverbial” boat. However, some boats are better than others. Ugghhh…….
Those people on the OSU Board have not liked Bill Clay's defense since the get go. We really have not have the people to make it work properly. I think it will work well for you if Clay comes to LSU. I saw, several times during this Bowl Season, the traditional defense, with everyone at the front. All the reciever had to do was go behind them, catch the ball and scamper to the goal line. With the 4-2-5 that can't happen. Our offense was terrible this year with a freshman quarterback but the OSU posters want to give the defense all the blame. They don't deserve it.
