Interesting thoughts on hypotheitcal coach search OK - so I'm already sick and tired of the who is the next coach stuff - so color me hypocritical but I thought these were some interesting suggestions. He's also got betting picks for the Dirks of the world... As mentioned in last week’s masterpiece, sports writers love to feast on low-hanging fruit, thus the reason there were exactly 873,000 stories about Les Miles being the next coach at Michigan. Brilliant leap, gentleman! Thanks so much for connecting those dots for me. Quick, tell me the best three teams in the country…no f*&king way! LSU, OU, and USC…wow, I had UTEP, Indian Hills CC, and Parumph High School. Here at the Journal, we laugh at the easy way out, we scoff at the paved highway, and we snicker at people wearing lederhosen! I will now tell you who is going to be the next coach at LSU. Here are the candidates: http://birdsjournal.blogspot.com/2007/09/intellect-so-powerful-that-seeing.html
Re: Interesting thoughts on hypotheitcal coach search CHAN GAILEY? Oh no. Please no. Greg Schiano would be like Les Miles 2.0, which isn't a bad thing.
Re: Interesting thoughts on hypotheitcal coach search Not really, he's a defensive minded dude. I don't think he'd be a candidate; he wouldn't leave for the |_|.
The talk and speculation is there because many Michigan fans feel like their season is already in the toilet: This unofficial comment made it official: "Apparently Michigan is ready to trade in a Lloyd Carr for one with Les Miles on it."
Let the hystery continue.... You know, the range of this thread is pretty interesting. From the "no! Let's not talk about it any more (but here I am posting on it)" to the "no way he's leaving" to "he's a goner." I guess my take on this is if you really want the spin to end, don't partake it in --and that means don't give into the internet posting hype  . Sit back and enjoy the season, and help Les focus on the season--he seems to want to. Don't give the potential recruits and the schools recruiting against Les any more ammo. The funny thing is when LSU first signed up Les Miles, these same fans were those "not sold" on him, and bashing him for losing a game or two, and those that were like "who cares about the Michigan clause in his contract." Now, look at 'em, they're the ones that'll be crying when and if he leaves. Just root for the Tigers. They may win the NC. That's the last you'll hear from me on the Michigan thing... until the end of the season.
It's current news that affects LSU. This forum is here to allow us to express our opinions and discuss LSU sports. Not talking about it on this forum won't make the subject go away. The only thing that can slow down this conversation is Michigan winning games. Should they lose to ND today, the talk with only intensify.
Look, 1. Miles may go to Michigan. Who can blame him? It's not every day that one gets a chance to coach at his alma mater. Miles is 54 and may not get another opportunity. If his coaching dream is to be head coach of Michigan, then he'll go if called. His comments make it pretty clear that he's going, if you ask me. He doesn't want to discuss it right now. He has a job he likes right now. Michigan has a coach right now. Clearly later on he's not ruling out the option. He's not going to simply lie like Nick. 2. Miles may stay at LSU. Michigan is a rebuilding job with high fan pressure. LSU will simply reload next year and remain a contender. He may not even be offered the job. For two years the media has said that Les can't coach without Nick's players, but suddenly he's the top contender for the Michigan job. Cooler heads will be making the decision at Michigan and there will be a national search with other top candidates considered. Les is no fool. Nick screwed up by leaving a winning program. Spurrier screwed up by leaving a winning program. If Les' coaching ambitions are about winning and establishing a legacy of his own, then LSU is the place to do it. 3. If Miles leaves, then LSU will just go out and get the best coach available again. If he leaves after a national championship, then the last two coaches at LSU will have won national championships and top coaches will be beating a path to Skip Bertman's door for the job. It will be the plum opening of 2007 and LSU will just rob another top school of their coach and present him with a talented team, no rebuilding needed, and a prime recruiting state. Crowton will likely be a candidate, too. 4. This is a fair topic for discussion and this thread will likely remain open all season, but the mods are unlikely to allow people to keep starting new threads and making this a premature issue and distraction all year long. Recruiting will suffer for it and we won't allow it. So get it out of your systems on this thread. Opponents trolling on the issue will be immediately deleted.
YOu can also look at Skip Bertman, who turned down the chance to go back to his alma mater (Miami) when everyone was SURE he would do so. And remember, he stayed because he said he recognized the potential he had here for successful runs and NOT because he wasn't confident in his coaching abilities.
