All conferences go through cycles, but I would argue that SC's two losses show that the Pac-10 is improving. Ted Tedford has done an amazing job at Cal, and I'm surprised NFL teams haven't gone after him. Remember, Cal tied SC for the best record in Pac-10 but didn't go to the Rose Bowl because it lost its head to head matchup with SC.

And, more importantly, there's ND and Charlie Weiss. ND will only get better as Weiss finally brings in talent and playmakers. In the future, winning against ND will be very, very difficult. PC has the advantage of talent, but Weiss is the better Xs-Os coach. If Weiss can ever bring in comporable talent, then watch out.

Sure, Poodle has it made in SC right now. But, if the NCAA ever comes down on SC, then the SC job would no longer be 'fun'. If PC scuttled out to SD, a team that would be considered a favorite to win the Super Bowl, who's to say that PC wouldn't have it made in SD. SD team is stockpiled with young talent, and only going to get better as Philip Rivers matures. PC would be considered one of the greatest coaches of all time for winning multiple championships in college and NFL. That would erase his struggles at this previous NFL coaching jobs. The NFL is a bigger stage than college football, and to succeed at the professional level would mean that PC would have it all the more made.

I tend to agree, however, most NFL coaches want personnel control so that they have some control over their own destiny. If a GM makes the wrong move, the coach normally gets the blame. But, if the coach has that power and makes the wrong move, he's got no one to blame but himself.

San Diego may be a unique situation that Carroll may consider because they already have Super Bowl talent in place.

Not only that but USC also had some small margins of victory in a couple of their wins too: Washington, Washington St. and Arizona St. were all 6 point games, but in fairness to USC, they were getting pretty far into their depth chart- it does go with the game though.

As far as defense goes, they aren't on SEC's level but I did watch some games and there were some good defensive games. The 13-9, is the most obvious but there were some others.

I don't know about that bitter, and I'm not trying to be an azz but I see ND worse off next year than this one.

    1) It's Jeff Tedford. And Cal has pretty much been schooled by USC the last two years. The Pac-10 is a three school conference right now (USC, Oregon and Cal).

    2) What evidence is there the Charlie Weiss is a better coach then Pete Carroll? Every big game I've seen Notre Dame play, they have lost. Plus Notre Dame has struggled with the Michigan State-type schools on its schedule. Brady Quinn is gone and there will be growing pains with Jimmy Clausen, no matter how good he supposedly is.

bitter, sometimes you're just down right funny. Are you actually suggesting that PC would leave because he might get beat by nd?:rofl::rofl:

Can you splain the outcome of the head to head matches between USC and nd with PC and donut boy as coaches? My goodness man. How many 4th down failures did you have this last year alone? BQ got schooled every time nd played a decent team and donut boy is supposed to be a great QB developer? Better X's and O's? 4th and 9 baby.

The NFL is a bigger stage perhaps but it's not for everyone. And many that leave come back..............hmm........anyone recent come to mind?
Your own donut boy is a more likely candidate for the Bolt's job.......at least the stage is big enough to hold him.

    Vball,

In the midst of the Saban wake there was a lot of people talking about Carroll being very interested in the Miami opening. Did that cause any concern on the left coast?

Shoo, between this and the lying going on to cover his own ass, what do you think is going through McTrojan's head right about now?
