I have an opinion but won't share it since Rex knows everything and I'd just get embarrassed

I agree, but there's no time to liquidate and stop the bleeding unless you default. That's the issue.

Edit: And by the way, what would be the US government equivalent of a person liquidating assets? Should we sell Alaska? I"m all for it if whoever buys it takes Palin too.

I would love to see them quit cold turkey. Force the spending cuts we need anyway now. It is either massive short term pain for long term benefit, or continue on the same path we are on and still end up with the massive pain only later.

Definitely. I just see the way to do this by holding the debt ceiling hostage to massive spending cuts. It's going to be a game of chicken but at the end, we can't raise the ceiling without legislation limiting future spending.

You just don't want to get called out as just another NEO-Con voting for the Status Quo.

We have nearly 400 billion dollars worth of gold. Are you suggesting we should be on the gold standard?

How much of that gold is actually there, how much has been sold, how much is used as collateral.. We don't know because they won't tell us.

A gold standard wouldn't be bad. I'd rather see competing currencies so we can kill the Fed.

A gold standard would be terrible. There isn't enough gold in the world.

We have to raise the debt ceiling because not to do so would result in the U.S. defaulting on it debts which would be catastophic. But the Republicans will demand some reasonable budgetary cuts such as cutting the budget back to where it was in 2008.
