Well, nothing here to eat so I hope it is OK to post.

Added some peanuts to a couple of my feeders. Within hours we had both Red Headed and Red Breasted Woodpeckers. Tried hard to get both in same frame, never quite worked out. First time we have seen the Red Headed, but the Red Breasted are regulars and we had two, tag teaming!

Whoda thunk HWR was a bird watcher. I know a guy who is an avid bird watcher. One time I turned into his driveway. He didn't notice me because he was sitting in his car rolling up a bunch of doobies with loud music on the stereo. When I asked him where he was going he said bird watching. I think he was offended when I told him, "Wait a minute. I'll go home and get my shotgun and go with you.'

    Beautiful birds!

Those dam starlings are another story. They get in my martin house. Where I have it, martins no longer inhabit because trees around it have gotten big and not enough opening. Every now and then I open the doors of the martin house, one side at a time and toss the eggs and nests.

OFTEN there are hatchings. I won't say what I do cause it's cruel and I'm normally not cruel to animals. I see this as necessary. I will say this, I once brought 6 hatchlings (already dispatched) to the river and used them on set lines. Didn't catch shit on them. Lucky I had other bait too.

Why do you call them red breasted when their breasts are white?

Apparently, on close exam, which I have not done, there are smaller red feathers. I think someone screwed up, or maybe red headed was already take,

We have a third woodpecker, the Downey Woodpecker, too. Much smaller than these two guys.
