Gerry Dinardo was a lineman on the undefeated National Champion Notre Dame football team which iced the title in the 1973 Sugar Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide & Paul "bear" Bryant. FINAL 24-23. Dinardo was/is a master recruiter which includes Cecil Collins(a great talent gone bust), Kevin Faulk, Rondell Mealey, Josh Booty, Abrahm Booty, Anthony Darelle "Booger" McFarland & many many other All Americans. LSU defeated Notre Dame in the Independence Bowl in a rematch 27-9 with a career night for TB Rondell Mealey of 222 yards rushing. LSU/Dinardo upset Steve Spurriers #1 Florida Gators 28-21 under a suffocating pass D. (UF has 19 straight wins & was concensus #1 until Baton Rouge 1997)
and then turn around and lost the next week to an unraked ole miss team, not to mention beating and unranked vanderbilt team 7-6 the week before, and later losing to an unranked Notre Dame team also, they went 9-3 that year and only one loss was to a ranked opponent, and that was #10 auburn.
