Great, insightful article. After the Sugar Bowl, LSU fans have collectivelly forgotten how divided and critical of JR they were earlier in the year. I don't know if you've said it explicitly, but I usually agree that QBs are not good choices for high picks. They take up too much cap space for a position that takes too many years to develop and that nobody knows how it will pan out. Instead, it would be better to use your pick on a player that you know can contrbute immediately. But, that's why BQ is a much better choice than JR. With JR, he's never played in a pro style offense and there's still questions if he could handle the mental aspects of being a QB in the NFL. JR would probably sit out most of his first year, and probably take several years to develop. With all the preparation BQ has had at ND, where he's been tutored by CW, BQ will be able to step in and play immediately.
i dont get this criticism. a guy whos consistently drove his team down the field in late game situations in national TV games even before he had fully harnessed his talent makes bad decisions in crucial situations? Iowa, OSU, ASU, Bama, UT, and Ole Miss games speak louder then a sack when hes trying to make a play late against Auburn.
As usual, you take a few out of context comments and attribute them to a larger group. Very similar to you claiming that JR made his bones by merely destroying your team. He actually did this quite often, but simply concluded his collegiate career with humiliating your team. What's the air like in your world? 'Cause you are the only one breathing it. Actually, LSU did run a pro style offense and JR was an honor student. His mental capacity has been praised by nfl scouts and coaches alike. Nice try, but your racist nature bleeds through. You base this on what? Hatred of a man that easily exposed the fraud that Notre Dame has become? With all that preparation, you would think Medicine Woman would have fared better against at least one pro style defense, but such was not the case. His stats were inflated against inferior opponents, and extended playing time (4th quarter), and were not indicative of his ability (or lack thereof) to perform vs quality teams. Get used to it, because if he is unlucky enough to have to start in the NFL, it will just get uglier. That is why you were humiliated by Michigan, USC, and finally by LSU. Thanks for showing up because it will be a pleasure to continue to rag a total moron like yourself for the next several years while Quinn finally gets run out of the league.
Give me a linke or some evidence that showed JR was considered the top draft choice before the Sugar Bowl? But, all he did was shred apart a not very good ND defense.
I realize you don't read much and certainly never followed LSU football before your own destruction, but Russell was not considered a draft choice of any kind because he was a JUNIOR....and never hinted at considering the NFL this year. Although it is fairly common for RBs & WRs to leave their junior year, it is rare when a QB goes after his junior year. JR was not considered a top draft choice until he DECLARED for the draft. At that point, the media realized what fools they looked like propping up incapable candidates like Quinn and Smith and jumped on a bandwagon for Russell. Not that you will bother to look, but the majority of posters here felt he would declare this year and would also be a first round choice. However, it wasn't until Russell destroyed a bunch of overrated, but academically superior (cough, cough) athletes in the Sugar Bowl, that he vaulted to the #1 favorite. And unlike your own QB, he has shown the class to neither pimp himself for this honor, nor attempt to demean his competition (cough, cough) in order to make himself look better.
Thank you for proving my point. The guy was going to be a first round draft pick, probably picked up in the middle of the first round, who suddenly jumped all the way to the top pick because of ONE game against a mediocre ND defense. It happened to be his best game evah, when the whole world was watching. But, any good QB would have shredded ND's defense. It didn't prove anything. Last year, Troy Smith had his way against ND's defense as well. But, that doesn't mean Troy Smith should be the top pick in the draft. JR would be a good pick if he was the tenth pick. But, for the top pick, he's too much of a risk where he could just as fail as he could succeed in the NFL. If I had the top pick and was paying all that money for a player, I'd want a player I knew was going to succeed in the NFL.
BQ was the highest projected QB in the Draft....before JR DECLARED. Raiders have the 1st pick and they need a great QB and the Browns have the 3rd pick and need a QB hence the jump to the top of the draft board. He had a great year but the last half of the year showed NFL scouts what he was made of.
No I didn't prove your point. As a matter of fact, you proved mine. Again you take things out of context. You even chopped my sentence in 1/2 to suit your purposes. He was not considered a first round pick by the media at large because he was a junior and did not declare. After the game, the media merely talked about how disappointing Quinn was. Once Russell declared, the media took the time to look at him and realized how good he was. Something the majority of LSU fans already knew.
