Too soon. Nick was 3-3 at this point in his first season and he turned out to be a pretty fair coach.
I was pretty disappointed after the first 2 games, but I thought the mistakes on D were correctable. Looks like they are being corrected. My attitude was give the guy a chance, for a few more weeks. Things have gotten better. That's good. We still haven't faced the whole enchilada, solid offense with a good QB, since the D has improved. There is still a test we have to pass. Auburn and Bama.
Like most, I critcized heavily after first 2 games, but I believe they've turned the corner. I also believe that Pellini's made adjustments since that time. The D has definately turned the corner. Today was the big test and they passed with flying colors. Our achilles heel had been stopping the pass, but Fla. barely had 100 yds through the air. Nuff said!
Yeah I looked at the roster, and all of those players were freshmen or sophmores, hard to build immediately on those younguns, but they did finish the year 9-3 and a number 8 ranking. Not bad for a first year coach. The true meaning of what Saban did his first year is this: 99 record 3-8, 98 record 4-7.
And what about us now??? Is JR not a soph? Xavier? Early? Chevis Jackson? Ali Highsmith? Broussard? With the exception of Broussard, we have key positions that we're counting on sophomores to play well and yet somehow, someway, people want to see Miles hang from the gallows because of what is perceived to be inexcusable to lose a single game when we have "this amount of talent".
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to BostonBengal again. Sometimes it is just too obvious for most to see. I will admit that I am not a Miles fan, and that is from his days at okie lite. My opinion is that he isn't a bad coach, just not a great one. The talent that you have will get better and better with any decent instruction. As it is now, you can out-athlete any team in the south. Pelini is showing what can happen when a coach has an idea of where he trying to get to. Good coach, team has a learning curve to grasp his style. I think everyone agrees that his philosophy is beginning to take. That takes me back to Miles\Fisher, I don't get a grasp of what they are trying to do. It is like they are confused because they have too many options. Let's try a little of this, then some of that. It is like that old saying, jack of all trades, master of none. If the O gets an identity that it believes in, you will dictate play, and before the year is out, you will be able to outplay just about anyone. You are showing flashes of that now.
Title of the thread-- Pelini. I like him, now. Offense - Need to try to get an offensive line working as a unit. Too many juggling of players, due to injuries. Not blaming, just the way it is. This is the opposite of the defensive line, where thay can substitute freely, pin their ears back & go.
