Yes, logic points that Zook was a horrid coach that screwed over the talent he inherited.

Even though the 2001 team was one of Spurrier's most talented
Heisman Finalists QB returned in 2002 (in addition to basically the entire OL)
Several straight Top 10 recruiting classes
Losing the East by just 1 game in two straight season
Numerous horrible coached games such as MSU, UM, and others....

But hey, it was the damn talent!!! :hihi::hihi:

As one football site said before the 2003 season
    Damn talent!!!

florida recruits itself pretty much its no secret, yet spurrier can coach even his marginal players on offense to succeed as we've seen throughout the years when taking over for galen hall.

however, its no secret via the UF fanbase that his in-home recruiting wasnt his strongpoint because he lacked the desire as guys like saban and fullmer who recruit nonstop.

add to that it was well known spurrier slacked bigtime in this area even more on his way out. you don't have to agree but it wasnt something new to anyone who halfass kept up. i dont think it was as bad as maybe some made it but there was definitely less emphasis which catches up to even the best programs.

add to that zook's lack of ability to coach marginal talent following superior and you have a skip/smoke situation.

having the top talent doesnt assure wins yet not having it assures losses.

    Florida defensive stats 1991-2004

    Year...Passing…Rushing….Total….scoring avg.
    1991….2280……1103…….3383……13.8
    1992….2705……1569…….4274……22.5
    1993….2547……1334…….3881……19.8
    1994….2649……1015…….3664……17.1
    1995….2225……1562…….3787……16.8
    1996….2070……1303…….3373……16.8
    1997….2417…….778……..3195……18.1
    1998….2155…….998……..3153……14.1
    1999….2887…...1099……..3986……19.6

    2002 ….2111……..2121…...4232…...21.5
    2003…..2716…….2061……4777…...20.8
    2004…..2444…….1703……4147…...21.5*
what it shows is a lack of defensive line talent going into 2002 Zook's first year and it takes until Zook's third year to put the rushing total down again.

In 2002 Zook's fr would play only.
In 2003 Zook's So, rsFr and Fr would play.
In 2004 Zook's Jr, So, rsFr and fr would play.
*ALL the top Florida players this year on defense are Zook recruits.
If you look at the ALL SEC defensive teams for 2002-2004 only Ratliff is a SOS recruit all the rest are Zook players.
If you look closely at the Florida defensive line you will see the drop off in 2002 on recruits and returning players, it was so bad Zook had to move some OL to defense to fill holes and parctice.

The other day I was flipping throught my cable channels and came upon WGN and the Cubs game.

Zook was the guest singer for the traditional, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," rendition during the seventh inning stretch.

Zook had to be the absolute worst singer to ever perform there.

Made Mike Ditka sound like a professional singer in comparison.

Off key, off tempo, monotoned.... Simply Pathetic. The worst ever!

But Cubs fans are pretty much out of touch with reality in the first place, so it mattered very little.

Zook really has very little to lose at Illinois. Any bowl bid at all would make their alums happy.
