Ok, I'll start, in no order: Little Village Geno's Ruffino's Mansur's on The Blvd. La. Lagniappe Flemming's Jubans Texas De Brazil Places I miss: Giamanco’s Jack Sabin's Joeys, I think thats the name. On Fla. Blvd. The old Culotta house? Jay's Donuts, fixed
Good list. Also: TJ Ribs el Rio Grande Mike Anderson's Pinetta's DiGulio's Fleur Dr Lis I miss: Chicago's Europe's Dreamland Phil's Oyster Bar (old location) La Fonda's
Yea Jay's is still open on Sherwood and the I blieve the original is still open on Government unless that has changed very recently. Mansur's used to be really good. Not to my taste anymore. Maybe I am spoiled.
Europe's and Mr Paul Dreamland, only tried it once. Phil's another good one. La Fonda's another good one. Great list.
I hit Mansurs about once every three months, I still like the food. Crab Brie, Crab Topped Fish, good menu.
I will add: Ruth Chris still one of the best locations in the U.S. (I have tried a bunch of them and none really compare) Roberto's on the Levee is probably the best semi new place in town. Maison LaCour Rama 9 Dragon Noodle House (Quality Chinese, etc at a really good price) Velvet Cactus for Mexican (Used to be Ninfas was one of the better places but gone downhill as of late) Beausoleil La Creole Digulio Brothers and Little Village are at the top for Italian and then Geno's IMO French Market Bistro One of my Chef friends was just hired as an executive chef for a Farm to Table resturant. Don't know the name yet but will be where Poritco was off Perkins Rd.
My friend created that menu but he left about 8 years ago. I have a few friends who have worked there since and all say the same thing...Just not the same. I am friends with the Chef that took over right after and he did a good job of coming close to the execution of the prior chef but he left pretty soon after. He is the one who opened Roberto's. The prior chef is a beast in the kitchen and I can understand why the revenue went way down after. That guy just got scooped up by a $3 Billion dollar restaurant group.
Louie's Cafe and Pinettas will always be on my list. I miss The Library, The Brass Rail, and The Cotton Club.
