Nothing final, yet of course, but as of now, this is LSU's highest rated class since these rankings became a thing, according to the 247sports composite. Typically, you need to be above 300 points to be within striking distance of the top spot these days. https://247sports.com/Season/2020-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/ 1) 2020 - 300.54 2) 2014 - 299.29 3) 2016 - 295.03 4) 2009 - 293.15 No other LSU classes have finished above 290 points. The big risers that caused the bump up above 300 points start with Kayshon Boutte who added a fifth star, and finished at No. 20 overall, up from 49, and ahead of both Rakim Jarrett and Jermain Burton. The biggest jump was OLB/WDE BJ Ojulari, who climbed up to No. 51 from No. 196 in 247's own rankings. Next is DT Jacobian Guillory, who moved up from No. 185 to No. 68 overall. Safety Jordan Toles moved into the top 100 at No.81 overall, from 114. https://247sports.com/college/lsu/L...t-Jaquelin-Roy-Top-247-142850718/#142850718_3
Just give me Burch and I’m happy. Jackson would be icing on the top, no doubt, but please give me Burch. If we get him, our DL will compete with Clemson’s for the next three years.
Goes to show you the top-heaviness of recruiting these days. Here I was, thinking that O was not doing as well as I expected him to in recruiting because we weren’t #1, but all of the top 4 classes are incredible, including his, and he’s doing better than Miles ever did, which is really saying something.
Yeah. The average scores of the top 5 classes have crept up over the years, while the next 5 have roughly stayed the same. Once you get outside of the top 10, scores have dropped from previous years. The best players are more concentrated at the top, and it’s just more evidence of the rich getting richer. One thing that has stood out to me over the last 10 years or so, is that Alabama continues to stockpile 4 stars. They have 22 four star or above players, which is pretty incredible, and they do it every year. Most of your best players will be 4 stars, just because of the numbers. There’s just more of them. I’m hoping we start seeing a similar trend, ourselves, and 2020 is a good start.
Another thing to note, the 2014 and 2016 Louisiana high school classes were considered to be the best of this era. The 2014 class had 12 Louisiana players, while the 2016 class had 19(!). The 2020 class only has 6 Louisiana players and has players from 10 different states. Nothing should be taken away from those earlier classes, but we are recruiting nationally now.
Which is a good thing but only to an extent. Tirk and I were discussing this last night. I say clean up around our own backyard first and THEN go see what we can get from the national guys. We always bitch about Saban taking our best guys, part of that is "allowing it to happen" and that is unacceptable. To hell with the fence, build a wall around our State and protect it at all cost.
Yeah, I'd agree, especially when you have guys like Van Pran, who's the No. 1 player at his position, AND it's a position of need. Ideally, I'd like to see 10ish Louisiana players every year, maybe a few more in strong years, a couple less in lean years. But 6 is probably too low.
Agreed. I think O is on board with this too, but this year dealt him a bit of a bizarre hand, and some unfortunate flips led to where we are a bit.
